Cross Over the Bridge

For reasons that many can't fathom, myself included, a huge bridge between Maple Ridge and Langley was built and opened three years ago, well actually June 16th to be precise.  It's not that I can't fathom a bridge being built, it is the sheer size and infrastructure and cost that went into it. Overkill comes to mind.

It was built to replace the Albion Ferry (free ferry) and while we were happy to have a bridge, I don't know what the powers that be, were thinking.  Ridership figures while they are increasing, are dismally below what was forecast.  We have a transponder so the toll is less but it still costs way too much.

Every once in a while when you hear the traffic reports, you'll hear there's been an accident on The Golden Ears Bridge, and people joke, again, myself included, that those two drivers crossing at the same time weren't paying attention.  That's how sparse it is.

Today on the way home from Church, I snapped a few pictures.

Miles of infrastructure before you actually get onto the bridge-deck itself

 Getting closer!

The bank of cameras recording your licence plates!

 We're almost there!

An Eagle sculpture marks the beginning of the trip over the actual bridge

A bit of Barnston Island.  Although you can't see it in this photo, the river level is really way up.

The Grandkids favourite laughter place - "The Poo Plant!"

Exit, stage Right!

This part of the bridge feels like a ride at the PNE!  A sharp left turn and down you go!

Goin' Down!  That's our light, turn left!

I hope you enjoyed your free journey over the Golden Ears today!

Happy Sunday.
